The Discover Barents photo contest 2020 has now ended and the winners are selected.
First of all we want to thank you for your participation in the Discover Barents photo competition 2020.
2020 took a turn that was hard to predict. Even though the year was challenging in so many ways it is delighting to see that so many of the Barents residents sought refuge in our grand nature.
That was also captured in this photo contest. Some found new friends, other helped the elderly, they were new ways to say hello and the bridges between our countries are still standing under the stars and northern lights, waiting for us.
The jury has selected the prize winners and they are contacted.

Background
The Discover Barents Photography Competition is a competition for anyone interested in photography to participate in! This photography contest has focus on the Barents region, and for the first time it was initiated by the County of Kainuu (Finland) in 2017, during their leadership of the Barents Regional Council.

The overall goal of the competition is the developing and strengthening cross-border co-operation in the Barents region. Other purpose is to support joint promotion of the Barents region and make it more visible. The theme of the first Barents Photography Competition was nature, and the contest was a big success.
Discover Barents Photography Competition 2020 – The Coronavirus impact on Barents
The County administrative board of Västerbotten (Sweden), chairing the Barents Regional Council in 2019-2021, continues the competition in 2020 and hopes that it will become a biannual event circulating between chairing regions and implemented by them. The theme of the competition 2020 is “The Corona virus impact on Barents”.
The competition has been open to everyone by submitting images related to the situation with the prevailing pandemic shot in the Barents area. Please, note that only photos with the consent of the persons depicted in the pictures was to be published and take part in the contest. We hope through the competition to gain access to high-quality photographs of youth in the Barents region, which can be used to promote this beautiful region.
The competition period was November 16, 2020 – March 19, 2021. After which an international jury has selected the winners. The winners will be announced in the beginning of April, 2021. The results of the competition will be published in the websites www.discoverbarents.com and www.barentscooperation.org. All winners will be notified in person, provided appropriate contact information has been submitted.
Prizes will be awarded as follows:
The I Prize: 1.200 Euros
The II Prize: 850 Euros
The III Prize: 600 Euros
A price for the most liked picture
In addition to the three best pictures, selected by the jury, the most liked image on Instagram under the hashtag #barents2020 will be announced as the winner of the general vote and rewarded with an honorable mention. The most liked image on Instagram does not have the same requirements as pixel size as the images selected by a jury. The same picture can’t win the honorable mention and the general vote.
The contest in social media ended at the same time as the contest, i.e. on March 19, 2021. Competition was promoted on social media using the hashtags #discoverbarents and #barents2020.
All the winners will be contacted by the county administrative board in Västerbotten for information about the price reception.
